Service Description: Functions as the governing centre for the community; oversees all community programs, services and facilities
Activities and services for community members also include but are not limited to the following:
  • Ontario First Nation Policing arrangements through Nishnawbe-Aski Police Services, Northwest Region; local ph: 807-363-1051; fax: 807-363-9921
  • Child and Family Services worker on-reserve provided through Tikinagan Child and Family Services in Sioux Lookout
  • Offers 2 main stores (Northern and Co-op), a few small convenience stores, a 5-unit motel with restaurant (Michikan Lake Business Center), 2 garages, 3 churches and a local radio station
  • Operates a Canada Post postal service
  • Offers the Bearskin Lake Credit Union (Anishinabe Shooniyaawakamik), a branch of the Northern Lights Credit Union (NLCU)
  • Provides Michikan Lake Business Center (motel): 807-363-1068
  • Operates a small airport maintained and serviced by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario
  • Participates in the Junior Canadian Rangers Program for youth (12-18 years) which teaches various skills including but not limited to first aid, using rifles safely, hunting and fishing, Native customs and traditions, healthy living, staying in school and problematic alcohol and substance use awareness
