Service Description: Serves as a non-profit volunteer organization committed to fostering the optimal development of children and youth through one-to-one mentoring services and growth-based programs

  • Matches children and adults in one to one mentor friendships
  • Provides children that are in need of a mentor with the highest quality volunteer-based mentoring programs
  • Offers a variety of school-based programs held during the school year
  • Volunteers
    • Trains volunteers to be mentors to children
    • Facilitates the meeting/assignment of volunteer mentor and child/youth and the parent/guardian

    Fees: None for most services; Some incidental expenses may be incurred during outings; Volunteers must pay for police background check
    Application:
    • Referral accepted from various sources including parents/guardians, school personnel, or other social service agencies

    • Parents and guardians referring children must complete an enrolment application and an interview with a caseworker

    • Volunteers must complete a screening process that includes application, interview, criminal records check including a vulnerable sector check, reference checks, medical clearance and a home visit
    Eligibility / Target Population:
    • Boys, girls and youth between 7-17 years of age residing primarily in a single parent home, who have specific needs that can be met through involvement in the program and by spending time with a positive adult role model

    • Requires support from parent/guardian for child involvement

    • Must be 18 years of age and over

    • Thorough screening check required
