Service Description:
  • Addresses public health issues and promotes healthy living
  • Administers health promotion and disease prevention programs within the Kenora and Rainy River Districts


  • Provides information and free resources to support and encourage individuals to quit smoking, protect the public from second-hand smoke and prevent youth from smoking
  • Promotes Canadian Cancer Society's smoker's helpline
  • Offers Brief Intervention Cessation Counselling (BICC)
  • Enforces the Smoke-Free Ontario Act
  • Supports smoke/vape-free outdoor space by-laws and smoke/vape-free housing
  • Provides a website with tobacco laws, smoking cessation tips, facts about second-hand smoke and activities teens have organized to fight tobacco
  • Offers sign-up forums to become involved in ways to quit smoking and to fight tobacco
  • Offers support and guidance to any youth desiring to become involved in health advocacy issues/public health programs
  • Offers various youth programs such as:
    Smoke Free Movies
    • Provides facts and figures about the movie industry's endorsement of smoking
    • Provides online avenues for youth to become involved in the fight against smoking appearing in movies
    • Partners with organizations in attempting to get youth-related movies with smoking in them rated "R"
