Service Description: Governed by an elected council of 13 members: the Mayor, 5 Councillors-at-Large and 7 Ward Councillors, municipal elections are held every 4 years

  • Promotes and ensures the successful participation in recreation for children and youth with disabilities
  • Provides free, limited support and facilitation for children and youth with disabilities who are accessing Recreation and Culture Children and Youth Programs, including summer programs Chippewa Summer Camps, Playgrounds, Canada Games Complex Adventurer's Camp, Kidventures and Youth Move
  • Provides support during the fall-spring programs of Learn to Swim (Volunteer Pool, Churchill Pool or the Canada Games Complex), Children's Programs at the Complex, the Neighbourhood Recreation Program and Youth Move
  • Staff are adaptable to modified forms of English such as written, gestures, and gazing

    Application:
    • Participants are required to fill out a Participant Information Form (Junior Inclusion Services Intake Form) and JIS staff will conduct a home or site visit prior to the child/youth attending the program (only within City of Thunder Bay limits -- if living outside the limits, staff will arrange an alternative location to meet)

    • Participant Intake Form available on website; completed form can be faxed or dropped off at Community Services Department at Victoriaville Centre
    Eligibility / Target Population: Children 18 years of age and younger with any type of disability seeking recreational opportunities
