Service Description:
  • Operates as a resource for Sioux Lookout Region First Nation communities and health/social service representatives to address the increase of prescription drug abuse and associated harms
  • Addresses sexually transmitted infections (STIs), blood-borne infections (BBIs), and the resulting increase in needle usage and sharing
  • Supports mental wellbeing in communities
  • Works to establish:
    • Increased public awareness about addiction issues, community healing and mental health promotion
    • An approach to improve the health and reduce prescription drug addiction in present and future generations of First Nations people
    • Access to health care and social services in spite of remoteness and complexity of issues
    • Liaisons with community leaders/health workers to understand services required specific to prescription drug abuse treatment and reduction of associated risks
    • Effective partnerships with health and social service delivery organizations
    Regional Wellness Response is integrated within Approaches to Community Wellbeing and includes:
    • Community Wellness Development Team
    • Mental Health Promotion
    • Indigenous Healing Wellness Strategy, Community Family Healing Program
    • Needle Distribution Service
    • Hepatitis C Support and Treatment Service
