Service Description: Operates a 100-unit seniors' supportive housing building
  • Owned by the District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) who manages building rentals
  • Offers 24-hour on-site non-medical support services to residents, supported by the City of Thunder Bay

  • Application for the Support Services Program is completed through the City of Thunder Bay

Eligibility / Target Population: Adults 60 years and older

  • Must be able to live independently within an apartment and require intermittent partial support to perform activities of daily living

  • Physician's form is required in order to access support services


Support Services Program cannot provide adequate support for seniors with:

  • history of severe alcohol and drug abuse causing a risk to self and others

  • active psychological or emotional problems resulting in behaviour which causes a risk to self or others

  • total assistance due to bladder or bowel incontinence

  • physical lifting or transferring in order to perform activities of daily living

  • health or medical problems requiring close professional supervision

  • cognitive impairment resulting in inability to direct others to meet support needs or inability to meet their personal safety/security needs (due to minimal staffing and lack of appropriate locked exits and door alarms throughout building)
