Service Description: Provides an alternative to the court process for youth with mental health issues and deemed appropriate for court diversion
  • Provides consultations to the Crown Attorney and develops service care plans
  • Assists youth to access mental health services and community supports including mental health and addiction services
NOTE: Crown may withdraw charges after youth's completion of mental health diversion program

  • Referrals accepted from any source

  • All referrals received by Firefly Youth Mental Health Court Worker
Eligibility / Target Population:
  • Youth 12-17 years of age

  • Evidence of a mental illness or is suspected of having mental health issues, traumatic brain injury, or developmental issues

  • Youth's mental health issue must be able to be effectively managed with the community

  • Youth has been charged with a Class 1 or less serious Class II type of offence OR

  • Is on current probation and receives a new divertible charge
