Service Description: Administers the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program which provides funding for non-emergency medical transportation
  • Assists with obtaining medical transportation benefits to access provincially insured medical services (doctors appointments, hospital care, diagnostic tests and health programs), alcohol, drug and solvent abuse treatment, dental, vision care and services of Traditional Healers
  • Assists with processing Non-Insured Health Service claims
  • Submits medical appointment travel, mileage, meal and accommodation requests on behalf of individual
  • Assists with an appeal if funding assistance denied
Services can include:
  • Making arrangements for transportation
  • Providing financial assistance to clients to transport themselves
  • Arranging for the medical services with the community
  • Financial assistance with meals and accommodation, if required

Application:
  • Requires booked appointments

  • Services are delivered to on-reserve community members at the local level (Band or Health Office)

  • Off-reserve clients should contact the Zone First Nation and Inuit Health Non-Insured Health Benefits (FNIH NIHB) Office for assistance
Eligibility / Target Population:
  • On or off-reserve First Nation members residing in the Sioux Lookout Zone District

  • Only applicable when required health services are not available in the community and there is no other source of funding available for transportation
