Works to optimize vaccine use and to control infectious diseasesReports diseases to the Ministry of Health (mandatory reportable diseases, under the Health Protection and Promotion Act)Provides listing of reportable diseasesImplements specific measures to control the spread of a disease during an outbreakProvides guidelines to schools and daycares on diseases within facilitiesCollaborates on infection control policies and procedures in all acute and long-term care facilitiesTuberculosis (TB) Control- Provides free tuberculosis skin tests and treatment

Participates in the following groups and/or committees:- Infection Control Committees: improves coordination of emergency preparedness and contingency planning in the event of an outbreak
- Northwestern Ontario Regional Infection Control Network (RICN): a network of infection control committees
