The Office of the City Clerk can commission certain documents, and there are certain documents that cannot be commissioned at this office:
Can commission:
  • Affidavits (Sworn statement of fact voluntarily made by an individual under oath or affirmation)
  • Declarations (Person affirming something is true when no other evidence is available)
  • Insurance Forms
  • Pensions
  • Travel letters (one/both parents must sign)
Can NOT commission:
  • Birth Certificate documents
  • Documents in a foreign language
  • Family Law (including Child Custody)
  • Forms specifically requiring a Notary Public (a Notary Public is a lawyer)
  • Power of Attorney
  • Real Estate
  • Wills / Estates

Service Description: Governed by an elected council of 13 members: the Mayor, 5 Councillors-at-Large and 7 Ward Councillors, municipal elections are held every 4 years

Coordinates all duties relative to the administration and legislative requirements necessary for a functional Council and municipal corporation including the following:
  • Provides secretarial support for proceedings of Council, committees and Police Services Board
  • Facilitates municipal and school board elections
  • Participates in and provides support for various community committees
  • Administers the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
  • Maintains the corporate policy manual and the corporate bylaw and report systems
  • Liaises with Aboriginal organizations
  • Provides civic information
  • Issues lottery licensing
  • Assists with and processes Marriage Licenses
  • Applications for birth and death certificates are available
  • Acts as Commissioner of Oaths
