Service Description:
|
Serves as a non-political Chiefs Council which provides support and advisory services to seven First Nation communities
Manages a secure custody facility for Indigenous youth in conflict with the law
- Aims to reconnect youth with Indigenous heritage and traditions to enhance their capacity to make better choices after the transition to community life
- Accommodates 12 youth with separate areas for 8 males and 4 females
Provides the following culturally appropriate rehabilitation programs and services:
- A ceremonial space to learn and practice cultural ceremonies
- An educational program to help youth further academic studies and develop skills
- Traditional teachings and Aboriginal history
- Anger management sessions and counselling
- Life skills education and training

Indigenous youth 12-17 years of age from Northwestern Ontario in conflict with the law and are being detained or serving sentences
