Service Description: Operates a self government and is responsible for the day to day operations of the Sandy Lake First Nation

Provides culturally appropriate education, programs and support to improve the health of expectant First Nation women and their babies
  • Promotes pre/post natal nutrition and healthy lifestyles
  • Provides information and support for all stages of pregnancy, including preparation for labour and delivery
  • Provides breastfeeding education and information
  • Offers adult and teen individual and group prenatal classes
  • Offers home and hospital visits
  • Provides infant formula and baby food to individuals in an emergency situation
  • Provides an infant weigh scale for use anytime
  • Provides referrals to other supports and services
  • Provides cultural craft times and teachings
Nutrition Education
  • Teaches about shopping on a budget
  • Advises on pre/postnatal nutrition and food supplements

Eligibility / Target Population: Members of Sandy Lake First Nation who are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant and women with infants up to 6 months of age
