Service Description: Governed by an elected council of 13 members: the Mayor, 5 Councillors-at-Large and 7 Ward Councillors, municipal elections are held every 4 years

  • Functions as an emergency text messaging service for members of the deaf, deafened, hard of hearing or speech impaired (DHHSI) community
  • Allows individuals who are in an emergency situation to converse with a 9-1-1 operator using text messaging

    • Fees: None - however, an active wireless subscription is required

      • Individuals must register with their telephone service provider

      Eligibility / Target Population:
      • Individuals who are deaf, deafened, hard of hearing or speech impaired

      • Must have an active wireless subscription and a 3G, 4G, or GSM supported cell phone


      NOTE: Service is not yet available for the general public and voice calling remains the best and most effective way to access 911 services if not part of the Deaf, Deafened, Hard of Hearing and Speech Impaired (DHHSI) community
