Service Description: Operates a self government and is responsible for the day to day operations of the Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation

Responsible for Medical Transportation assistance and processing Non-Insured Health Service claims for community and Band members
  • Submits medical appointment travel, mileage, meal and accommodation requests on behalf of individual
  • Assists with making travel arrangements
  • Maintains client documentation, receipts and related information
  • Provides transportation to medical appointments within the community and to medical/specialist appointments at the nearest appropriate facility
  • Provides pick-up and drop-off at Kenora Greyhound station

Fees: None
Application: Medical Transportation

  • Requires written proof of medical appointment

  • Requires 24 hour advance booking; exceptions made for emergencies

  • Advance cancellation recommended

  • Requires booked appointments


NOTE: The following types of services will not be provided by Medical Transportation:

  • Travel outside Canada

  • Ambulance services

  • Services occurring outside Band operations

  • Benefits for clients requiring dialysis, chemotherapy, methadone ingestion and radiation treatment will be prior approved through NIHB Medical Transportation Framework
Eligibility / Target Population: Members of Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation who require assistance with Non-insured Health Benefits (NIHB) arrangements and forms, and/or assistance with medical transportation due to age or disability
