Service Description:

Operates a self government and is responsible for the day to day operations of the Deer Lake First Nation- Tribal Council: Keewaytinook Okimakanak/Northern Chiefs

Provides supports and services to help families improve maternal and infant nutritional healthFocuses on the following 3 areas: Maternal Nourishment that may include:- Baby food making and nutritional cooking sessions
- Healthy snacks and meal information
- Milk and food vouchers as well as vitamin supplements
Nutrition Screening, Education and Counselling includes:- Education on prenatal nutrition
- Understanding food labels
- Presentations by dietitians and health specialists
- Nutrition screening by Community Health Representative
- Individual counselling by nutritionists
Breastfeeding Program includes:- Promotion of breastfeeding initiation and duration
- Support groups
- Breastfeeding videos and resource materials

Eligibility / Target Population:
|
- Members of Deer Lake First Nation who are pregnant, new mothers or with infants younger than 12 months of age
- Vitamin supplements, milk and food vouchers are only available to women enrolled in the program
