Service Description: Offers a wide range of community-based and culturally appropriate programs and services to Métis people

Operates as a program under the Healing and Wellness Branch
Provides supports and services to help families improve maternal and infant health and well-being with a focus on the following three areas:
Maternal Nourishment that may include:
  • Baby food making and nutritional cooking sessions
  • Healthy snacks and meal information
  • Milk and food vouchers as well as vitamin supplements
Nutrition Screening, Education and Counselling includes:
  • Education on prenatal nutrition
  • Understanding food labels
  • Presentations by dietitians and health specialists
  • Nutrition screening by Community Health Representative
  • Individual counselling by nutritionists
Breastfeeding Program includes:
  • Promotion of breastfeeding initiation and duration
  • Support groups
  • Breastfeeding videos and resource materials

Fees: None; Fee assistance available for Transportation: Bus passes available to adults attending programs
Application: Contact office to enroll in the program
Eligibility / Target Population:
  • Métis, First Nation or Inuit women who are pregnant, new mothers or with infants under 12 months of age

  • Vitamin supplements, milk and food vouchers are only available to women enrolled in the program
