Service Description: Responsible for the delivery of provincially mandated services on behalf of the citizens of the District of Thunder Bay

  • Provides access to rent geared to income housing within the city of Thunder Bay and district
  • Processes applications, maintains the central waiting list, and identifies applicants for tenant selection for all properties within the District
  • Specializes in subsidized units for senior citizens, singles, and families
  • Rent Supplement
    • Offers rent geared to income units in buildings owned by private landlords

    Note: A rent supplement is a subsidy provided to landlords to bridge the gap between the market rent for the unit and amount the tenant can pay based on their income

    Eligibility / Target Population:
    • Individuals 16 years of age and older who are able to live independently

    • Special priority status available for victims of domestic violence and abuse

    • Each household member is a Canadian citizen, or a landed immigrant, or a refugee claimant

    • No deportation, departure or exclusion order has been made against any member of the household

    • No member of the household owes rental arrears to any housing project under any housing program (Includes market and/or rent-geared-to-income)

    • No member of the household has been convicted by a court of law or found by the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal to be misrepresenting their income for the purpose of rent geared to income assistance
