Service Description: Administers and delivers social services to the citizens of the District of Kenora

  • Provides short term financial assistance to individuals and families in need
  • Offers Extended Health Benefits to qualifying individuals
  • Provides information to recipients about participation requirements including seeking employment, basic education, volunteer work, or self employment
  • Participants can access a variety of programs and support services including but not limited to:
    • Child Care
    • Clothing Needs
    • Community Placement Program
    • Discretionary Benefits
    • Drug Benefits
    • Employment Resource Centre
    • Employment Start-up Costs
    • Enhanced Employment Placement Program
    • Funeral and burial expenses
    • Learning, Earning and Parenting
    • Pay-Direct to Landlord
    • Special Diets Allowance
    • Transportation

    Fees: None
    Application: Individuals can apply online or by contacting the office
    Eligibility / Target Population: Individuals must be 16 years of age and older and:

    • Be a resident of Ontario

    • Be in immediate financial need to help pay for food and housing costs

    • Be willing to take part in activities that will help find employment

    • Sign a Participation Agreement


    Amount of financial assistance provided is determined by various factors including:

    • Assets

    • Family size

    • Housing costs

    • Income


    Extended Health Benefits: Individuals and families who:

    • Were eligible for Ontario Works in the previous months, or

    • Are no longer eligible for Ontario Works because a payment was received for loss of income under the 1986-1990 Hepatitis C Settlement Agreement


    Employment Resource Centre: Must be a recipient of ODSP/OW benefits
